    new IBM freezes

I installed 3 new IBM NetVista PIII 800's, 128 RAM, 21" Cornerstones, WinNT SP5, Token Ring, Netware 5x with Office 97 SR2 and some specialized programs.

These 3 machines replaced 3 older IBM P200's with the exact same network setup, periphials (monitors and the like), software setups and OS. Very stable but slooooow.

The problem is this. All 3 seem to have developed a case of the lockups requiring a re-boot. This was right from the first. Approximately 3 to 5 a day.

I can't find a common thread such as one app that causes the freeze. I think I've gotten too close to this one. I really believe that the machines are just too fast at this point.

I set the hardware acceleration to 1/2 but that made no difference. I tried updating the Cornerstone drivers, there was only one new release, no difference.

I checked IBM's web site but unless I missed something there's no help there. I checked MS KB and again nothing really helpful.

Has anyone seen a case of machine "speed kills" ? Does anyone have any experience with the NetVista or PIII compatibility problems with NT or other software.

If you don't come up with something I won't have any hair left.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I've been checking resources to no avail and by the way I mistated, 2 are NT and 1 is 98 SE.

All 3 machines were stripped at the beginning of all but the OS so run pretty clean. I was just removing the dreaded (hated in my case) McAfee completely from one machine to see what if any effect that has.

    I'll keep experimenting.
