Kaspersky (KIS) and SpywareBlaster & Other Questions

• Is there any reason to continue to use SpywareBlaster with KIS?
  
• Will SpywareBlaster work with KIS?
  

I can NOT access http://www.salon.com/ using either IE or FireFox. It seems that Kaspersky is using adblock but I cannot figure out how to turn it off. I have already set up salon.com as an allowed website in both IE and FireFox.

If you are using KIS 7 you should be able to unblock the web site. Download the manual at ftp://dnl-us4.kaspersky-labs.com/doc...h/kis7.0en.pdf and go to page 252.

If you need the manual for another version, go to http://www.kaspersky.com/home_user_docs and download the manual that you need.

If KIS did block this site I would be wondering what was in it that caused it to take this action.

You may also want to check your HOSTS file to see if that is what is preventing you from going to the site. If there is an entry in there delete it. I would be concerned though as to how it got there in the first place as KIS should have prevented any modification the HOSTS file.

I just got finished downloading the latest version of Ad-Aware version 7.0.2.6 but when I try to run Ad-Aware, it says that it is not a 32 bit program. I downloaded the program from CNET download site.

Any ideas about what is going on here.

I tried to run SpywareBlaster but I get an error.

I tried to upload a snapshot that I took using SnagIt version 8.2 but VDR does not accept a MHT file format, which was a shock to me.

Prior versions used to use the png file format.

I can get to the Salon site, whether I enter the IP addess or salon.com. What I can not do is read the article, when I click on War Room or any of their other highlighted articles.

I have previously been able to fully access this site but it was prior to my installing Kaspersky plus Salon just made some changes to their website architecture.

Since this site relys on advertising revenue, I thought that how they serve up ads and how Kaspersky handles that might be the issue.

Linda--I do not run Kaspersky (I run Norton Antivirus). The other anti-malware programs I run are a mixture of various freebies such as ZoneAlarm, AdAware, Windows Defender and, yes, Spyware Blaster. I have never had a conflict amongst them. And I can view Salon.com and its links fine.
Why don't you disable Kaspersky, turn on Windows Firewall, and see if the problems you mention go away? (You really do not need antivirus when you visit reputable sites and do not download anything, but you do need a firewall when connected to the internet.)
Concerning AdAware 2007, you might want to post in the Lavasoft forum. http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/
There certainly is nothing on the CNET download page to suggest that what you are downloading is a 64 bit version.

I use Kaspersky, and I don't use any other onboard program for malware detection. I do occasionally use online scans to get a second opinion, as I never trust anyone scan 100 percent.

Well, I got the Salon problem solved. In the anti-spy panel, I had enter salon.com on my white list... but I had not entered it on my anti-banner white list. Once I did that, everything worked on the Salon site.

The Kaspersky (KIS) software is awesome. There are just a few wrinkles for me to iron out.

I think that I will forget about ad-aware, spybot and spyware blaster since I am using Kaspersky and follow your example.

However, I think that VDR, should expand the file formats to include the Screen capture tool, TechSmith SnagIt's file format of MFT. Would you please check into this and let me know what you find out.

How about simply saving it to a VirtualDr-compatible format?
