[RESOLVED] [XP] Standard Game Port conflict
Hi all. I have just purchased a Logitech X-530, 5.1 speaker set and am having problems. I had a 5.1 sound card lying around so I installed that first, turned off the onboard sound via the BIOS and connected everything up.
Got the found new hardware popups etc. and all seemed well until I had a listen to the far left and right speakers. There is minimal sound coming from them. I have searched on the pc for a way to individually adjust them but came up with nothing .
I opened Device Manager and found that there is now a big yellow splat saying something is not running correctly. On closer inspection I saw it was the Game Port (one of the popups that I got regarding new hardware found). Code 12, cannot find enough resources that it can use. Conflicting device list comes up with Input/Output Range 0201 - 0201 not available. which I have no idea what it means.
Anyone give me some pinters please?

There is minimal sound coming from them-> I'm thinking this is normal. Are there controls on the actual speakers that you can adjust?
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

Actually, I don't think there is any sound coming from them. None from the centre speaker either. I think I was picking up the sound from the other speakers.
Only speakers that have a control on them are the sub woofer and the one with the on/off and volume buttons.
I have downloaded the driver from C-Media and selected the 5.1 channel set up but still have no luck.

Did you use a cd that came with the Sound Card? Have you been to thier web site for maybe newer drivers?
Could also try taking the card out...Boot backup in safe mode and make sure there isn't any reference to the the sound card....If there are zap em...Put card back in and see what happens.

Did you check to see if onboard sound is disabled after installing the soundcard? And have you ran the little wizard that allows you to select 5.1, and also test each speaker seperately by playing a short chime?

I have done everything else but not the wizard. How do I run the wizard?

I'm using Vista here, so i'll have to guess my way to it, i think it would still be via Control Panel|Sound|Configure, i get a diagram with the option for Mono|Stereo|Quadro|5.1|7.1, if you click 5.1 the diagram on the right should change, and you can click each speaker to test it.

Thanks Liam but I had already been there. Didn't think it was the 'wizard.' I do not get the option to check each speaker though.
Saying that, I got home from work today and I am now getting sound from all speakers . Quality is pretty poor from the rear ones, but the 5.1 card is not top of the range either .
Thanks guys.

You're Welcome Crunch.
Is it poor as is distorted, or low volume? Did you get any sort of remote with them?

No remote. It's low volume and seems to be a little 'buzzy' as well.
