Motherboard and memory
I have a msi motherboard MS-6738. I recently purchased a 1 GB memory stick (ram) for the board. It is a ddr but the board takes both ddr and sdr both not a the same time. The manual says it takes either double sided or single sided. Each bank is 64mb to 1 GB. When I put the stick in though it only is showing 512 mb or around have. Something like that. Anyone have any ideas why it wouldnt read the gig?

That suggests the DIMM you have is too high component density. Was it purchased as compatible with the board?
For example here is Crucial's recommendation:
http://www.crucial.com/store/listpar...(KM2M+Combo-L)
Compare this with the DIMM you have.
