TCP RWIN

In attempting to edit the registry to optimize the TCP RWIN I find three control sets. They are current control set, control set 001, and control set 003. Why do I have three? Do I need to modify the size of the TCP RWIN in each of them?

rwinegar--Being lazy I use the Tweak tool from DSL Reports.

It analyzes what it feels are the best settings for my ISP and then I use DrTCP's window to make the changes.

Welshjim: In the past I too have used those same tools on both my computers. But being curious I decided to open the registry to try to find how the DRTCP.exe tool actually changed it. That's when I discovered these multiple control sets. I am also curious about why they exist. Why do I have 001 and 003, but no 002? Is something amiss?

rwinegar--First of all, the link http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks seems to be not working. I have posted in the DSL forums, but so far no response other than that others have the same problem.
Second, I regret I cannot not answer your question. I gather your control set 001 and control set 003 settings are different although you have only one internet connection? Perhaps not something to worry about if you are getting the download/upload speeds promised by your ISP most of the time. But if you want, post any specifics from those two Registry settings which you think might be helpful in explaining the situation. (Perhaps, indeed, the two sets come from times when you changed the settings for whatever reason, and the old and the new just reside in Registry together.)

The content of all three control sets appears to be the same. I have three 1394 net adapters. Maybe that has something to do with it. In any event I am not going to wory about it as everything appears to be working just great.

I have the same folders in my 3 XP rigs.
I would say that is a normal happening.

I agree on the tweak site being the best bet.

Seems all the sites listing where to mod the regs are for 98. Anyway some of the folders listed are not in XP.

Thanks guys for the help. Train, that's an interesting thread. However, it refers to several DWORD's that do not exist in my computer.

This whole thing started because my ISP is bumping my DSL connection from 5Mbps to 10Mbps next Friday. I assume I may need to make some RWIN adjustments at that time.

I am excited about this bump. Imagine downloading a full length movie in about 10 minutes! I remember when it used to take an hour for a song.

I finally used the DRTCP.exe tool and when i check against the link above, they were all there.

I have been using the default setting until today and had not seen any hold up.

Now the other end has held me back lots of times.
