Anyone using the new Hotmail?
It's called Windows live. I really like it, much faster than Hotmail, and when you delete something you don't have to refresh 10 times before it shows up as deleted. It also isn't tied to messenger anymore, which was a major nuisance. Selectable color themes also

Really?! Maybe I should finally take the plunge. Aside from the delete annoyance JP noted, plain-old-Hotmail sufficed better than any improvements I saw in the last six years. Especially the Incredimail come-on, which we had to beat back with sticks for weeks.

I manually chose to install it 2 days ago; the next day my wife's hotmail account which she uses always, was installed automatically.
So far, so good but I only use it sparingly in the past but may use it more now.. I like it's options. May "park" some music files there using those 5GBs.

I should have known. This "new & improved" version sucks as bad as YahooMail.
•I used to be able to empty the Deleted or Junk mail folders with one click; now I have to do it page by page, 25 messages at a time.
•The header bar used to allow Home-Inbox-Compose-Contacts, for one-button changover to mail-writing mode; that's thoughtfully been removed in the new version. It took me five minutes to find the Compose link (in 4-point gray type) to send one letter.
•The old version had a third Delete button ( the "X") in the upper-right corner of every letter - the easiest of the three to find and use. Naturally, that one's been removed.
•The whole mail list reminds me of OE, yellow and white with too little room between the entries, instead of the easy-to-see blue and white setup of the old Hotmail.
I gotta see if I can roll this back. I didn't even get around to choosing this c r a p; it was the old version when I went to work, and was the new version when I returned.

You can't unfortunately, the old one is history. This is it, this is Hotmail now.

I have not updated to windows live yet. I wanted to see what the problems were before I went that way. I have never had a problem deleting messages. I don't use Hotmail except for a throw away addy. After lgbpop's post, I don't think I'm going to update it either.

You won't have much choice. Apparently, maintaining two separate Hotmail programs is a waste, so they're getting rid of the good one IMO. I got used to the old version in 20 minutes six years ago and have never had a problem since, until this unwanted "upgrade" was foisted on me today. After ten minutes of this, I want to scream. All the features I liked have been either removed, or buried beneath a ton of "must-have" features about which I couldn't care less. I don't WANT an effing MySpace page with my Hotmail!

Well there are two versions of the new Hotmail, the so-called "classic" and the other one. I tried the newest version, it took too long to load, so I went to the classic, which really doesn't bear that much resemblance to the original Hotmail. Still I don't have a problem with it. In fact, I like it. It's definitely faster than the other. The only thing I don't like is that it requires a separate download of photographs rather than have them appear in the body of the e-mail. That stinks

I haven't checked my hotmail since last week some time. So maybe that's why it wouldn't load the other day when I tried to get in there via msn/ windows live messenger. Like I said I only use it for junk mail and only check about once a month just to keep it active. My main address works just fine for all other mail, like here and CTH and family and friends.
And I just checked it and it's still hotmail, not Windows Live Mail. So how did you end up being forced to update lgbpop?

I willingly installed the new version. Wife had it "forced" on her. We both like it OK.
Another nice thing about free---you can always close the account or stop using it period. There are other free web mail apps. available.

I'm not questioning about there being other mail apps. What's ripping me to shreds is why on earth MSN would take a perfectly good app and change (ruin) it beyond recognition in the name of progress.
Saying I was forced to update is not semantically accurate. It was just done in my absence. At least MS gave me the option to block installation of IE7. I had no choice in this deal. I'm surprised they didn't sneak that blasted Google toolbar through with it.

It never loads for me at all now at I have to hit the "Is this taking too long?
Try the classic version " link. They should rename it Microsoft Dead Hotmail".
