Resolved [RESOLVED] SD Card I/0 Errors

Boy! This one's got me stumped.

I have several 2GB SD cards. When copying and pasting data to them via high speed USB I am unable to transfer more than about 981MB when I get an I/O error. Event viewer error reads "An error was detected on device/Device/Hard Disk2/D during a paging operation". This happens with every SD card to which I try to copy data.

I have two HD's. I have 1GB physical memory and 1GB virtual memory on my data drive (D). I also have 200MB virtual memory on my system drive (C).

    Win XP Home SP2

Try unintalling and reinstalling the drivers for the card reader. Do you have another card reader you could try?

What size files are you transferring, and what file system are the cards using?

Files are all mp3 files - probably around 2 to 3 MB. I'm not sure about card's file system. I think 2GB SD cards are formatted FAT32.

What happens when you transfer in smaller groups?

Small groups - same thing. I/O error at about 1GB of transferred data.

I can transfer any number of files to a USB thumb drive. I just copy and pasted 3GB to a San Disk USB drive. Twice. It's only these 2GB SD cards that are giving me fits.

Is it possible that my card reader is obsolete? I am using a Zio Dazzle that is about 5 years old. Could it be that this reader just won't work with 2GB cards?

If the files are all small, then the FAT32 file system will not be a problem. However, the error message you posted seems to indicate a problem the the D: hard drive. You could try checking the D: drive for problems and errors.
