Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered Problem
Hi all,
I just yesterday finished building my new PC
Intel Quad 6600
4gig Corsair Dominator
Abit Fatality Mobo FP-IN9
XFX 8800 UltraXXX
and
Vista Ultimate x64
Every time i play either a game of graphicly demanding program i get a random black screen for a few seconds then it whips me back to desktop with the following popup.
"Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered"
I have trolled the net and found that this is a common problem between Vista and Nvidia.
I have tried all the common ways of solving the prob to no avail
Fresh Install Vista + all updates and Hotfixes, Roll back drivers each and every driver back to 158.45 each time using driver cleaner to be sure its a fresh install.
Ive also checked wether or not it was a heat issues, which it isnt, At peak temp of gfx was 73 which is well within normal range.
Any of u here know of any sollution other than putting XP back on it?
This prob is highly annoying.
Thanks in advance
Dave

I`ve had that problem too since March As you have found out it is a very common problem with no real resolution. I have lost count of how many different drivers I have tried.
MS has released a patch which is supposed to include a fix for this. I have only seen one person reporting on the fix saying it does not help. I have not tried it myself

There is no solution, it is up to Nvidia to pull their finger out and fix the drivers for Vista, it seems Vista snook up on them, and i don't see the problem being fixed soon tbh.

Hmmm sort of expected that. I have not seen any reports of it working for that error.
You will just have to be like the rest of us and wait for Nvidia to produce some decent drivers
At the moment they are not even producing bad drivers for GeForce Go mobile GPUs
Thanks for testing and reporting back.

Just a quick one....did you run driver cleaner in safe mode each time?
I've been using 158.45 for a while, and switched to the Beta 163.44 on wednesday when i got the Bioshock demo, and haven't had any problems with games or demos.
