IE loading issues

Hi everyone,

IE (and firefox) loading very slowly sometimes with 'bars' on (see pic) I noticed that often a .css file is involved. Every thing clean, defragmented, got SP2 now+totally updated (phooh), loads of HD space. Temperatures very good, after 8 hours running max 103. Difficulty emerges right at start of day.
Thought it might be a memory issue but my committ charge in task manager is 275 to 300 - apparently this is fine as it is under 525.

noid--I sometimes see those lines if I try to scroll a page before it is fully downloaded.
So how to speed up downloading a page?
1) You could have malware.
2) Have you cleaned out your cache (Temporary Internet Files) lately?
3) You could have too many programs running, perhaps because you have too many starting when you boot. WinXP actually needs very few thirdparty programs to start at boot.
I feel we may have had this conversation before and I mentioned that you probably do not need detailed instructions how to do the above, but maybe that conversation was with someone else. Please let me know if you want more info.
You could also have memory problems, but I am not able to advise on that.

Hi, yes there was similar discussion around aspx css files - then I downloaded SP2 and all updates, which seems to be fine (had to enlarge boot disk though!)

The loading issues has not changed. As I said did a clean re malware, defrag etc, but cleaning up cache - I only do it thorugh discleanup, otherwise I loose all of my passwords, membership log-in etc.

My startup list is clean, but I do watch TV when I surf (mostly). Would like some input re memory, I guess everyone says get as much as you can.

Hi, I found a suggestion for a fix in the KB, Article ID : 183717 "To work around this issue, use Registry Editor to open the following registry key and then perform the appropriate steps:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
• To re-enable the use of style sheets, edit the string value "Use StyleSheets" in the above key and set it to yes. "

However I have not got a string 'use stylesheets'. Will I just put it in, and is there any best way to do this?

noid--I am about to sign off for the day.
But let me say right off that I have looked into my Registry and do not have this key. And I do not have the problem you mention. So will it help? Are those bars permanent or just when the page starts to open? If the latter, I somehow doubt a style sheet is the problem.
From reading KB183717 I am not sure it applies. The change is about changing a "no" to a "yes", so see if you even have this key. If you have it and it says "no", make the change by right clicking on the "no"|Modify and changing the value to "yes"--all without quotes.

However, what ever you do, back up your Registry (or at least the Main Key) before messing with it. Sorry. Got to run.
