dual dvi lcd monitors on one dvi videocard

I couldn't find anything on dell's support pages about this. I have several dell computers, gx270's/gx280's with a small single dvi ATI videocard that need to have a dual monitor setup. I was wondering if it's possible to have a dual desktop on both monitors by using a dvi splitter. The dell's have preset videodrivers from a disk image installed. The videocard software installed doesn't display the standard ati software tabs. I'm thinking that if I update the videocard software to the latest xp driverset that it'll show the option of having multiple desktops.

Is this possible to have a dual desktop split into 2 dvi monitors from a single dvi ATI videocard??

These are pcs that are used to display and monitor x-ray information.

Do you need different info displayed on each monitor? If so, you'll need a different video card...

Have you gone out and looked for splitter cables?

yes I think the users might need different info displayed, but I would think that they would be able to drag and drop different windows to the other display.

I have the dvi splitter cables, but I was wondering if the updated ATI videodrivers would allow dual desktops from 1 dvi videocard using dvi splitters. Is there also a power loss if you split from a single dvi output?

I should point out that these dells use a very small width video card. Most dual dvi or vga/dvi dual display videocards won't fit in these cases.

You won't be able to get different info displayed to the different monitors with a single display card.

If you goggle: "low profile video cards" you find several with dual ports.
