Trouble w/ Java on Vista
Why am I having so much trouble downloading Java Runtime 6 on Vista? I tried to download twice and it says it has been downloaded , but I can't find it installed. Websites that have Java, just show a blank box. I have Java enabled under my Internet tools. Whtas up?
Here's my info:
IE 7

Have a look in Control Panel>Programs and Features, and see if it says that it is installed there.

Possibly Vista...look for a folder called Downloads and you may find the installer there. Vista doesn't seem to run installers automatically after download - a good thing, too, IMO.

Best bet with vista for most downloads is to save them to hdd and run them from there.
User Account Control is what stops things from what I read.

I found Java on my system (under search). But when I try to open it a small black screen w/ writing tries to open, but disappears. I tried "open as administrator", and the black box won't stay up.

Hi, Java needs to install a setup before downloading the full install. You will need to run it to get the full install, unlike IE6 the main menu in IE7 is hidden go to near the top of IE7's headers and right click you will see "menu bar" put a check next to it then go to tools\ advanced and put a check next to "notify when downloads complete" download Java then click on run to complete the install.
