    Legal DVD ripping

I'm trying to convert DVD files back to mp4 files. I know that the .iso format is just a translation of .mp4 files. I want to be able to edit files from a DVD without transcoding to another codec or recompressing in any way.
Note: I'm not attempting to defeat copy protection. I'm talking about DVDs with no encryption. I also don't want something that will take a DVD and make it play on an iPod, since that would involve recompression.
Anybody have experience with software that will work well for this?
    Thanks!

If as you say,you just want to edit DVD(Vob) files? Then my suggestion would be DVD Shrink ...

    Thanks for the suggestion...
Actually I was hoping to edit them as mpeg4 files, maybe publish them to youtube or whatever.
