receiving chopped jpgs
Greetings,
If I'm posting in wrong forum, please redirect as needed with my thanks.
About 30% or so of the jpg's I'm sent by email are incomplete - they open, but only part of the image is showing. I'm trying to figure out the source of the problem. People all seem confident that they are fine when they send them, but I can't verify that myself.
I use Outlook2k, latest Irfanview & plugins on...
wireless cable
W98se
400 megahertz AMD K6 3D
128mb sdram
Insights or suggestions, please!

This really isn't a digital imaging problem, it's more an Outlook problem. So, I've moved your thread to the General Software forum.
The Digital Imaging forum deals with printers, cameras, and scanners and how to resize photos, etc.

What happens when you send 10 or so jpegs to yourself (in the same or different e-mails)? Are they sent and received OK or do some have problems?

Thanks, photolady - It can be s difficult these days to get people to help you move!
Nice call, jdc2000 - yup, some are received corrupted!
So, what do we know now....
Also, since my ISP only provides pop3, I checked webmail (on my other pc - thos one hardwired to network) and still had emails on the server that had jpg attatchments that were originally received as corrupted via pop3/Outlook2k - accessed that way, all jpgs were fine!
I guess the next troubleshooting I could do would be to try accessing those webmail attachments on THIS (wireless net) pc. That will shed some light on whether the problem is due to wireless access, or something software or hardware located locally on this pc.
Any further ideas/hunches while I check that out?
Thanks!

Try using a different e-mail client program. If the e-mail messages are still corrupted after receipt, then it is probably the communications link. You could try a program called JBMail. This will download only the headers and allow you to decide which messages and attachments to download.

jdc2000, this is a relatively new problem while I've been using O2K since 1999, so what if I try an Outlook repair first, after backing up my pst's, of course?
Actually, come to think of it, I'll google jpg, corrupt, and outlook, etc a bit and see if anything comes up first....
Thanks a bunch, and further input also greatly appreciated!

Is it just the one account where this happens or all?
Does your ISP have an online post box where you can test the intergrity of the images before you download locally?

Since he accessed the jpg's OK using web mail, the mail server at his ISP is OK. It is likely to be an Outlook or an antivirus problem, which is why I suggested an alternate e-mail program.

not just Outlook
This is an older thread, but I'm updating for archive purposes and request feedback as well.
I recently realized that it's not just images received through Outlook 2000 that can be chopped/corrupted here.
See, within my ISP's webmail interface, originally I found I could dl images without problems - thus, I'd deduced an O2K culprit.
HOWEVER, I just found out that if I just click to open (rather than "save as" from within webmail, the images are ALSO often corrupted.
The "save as" dl method via webmail continues to be reliable.
I'm puzzled, indeed!

Personally, I never click Open for attached files, whether from web mail or an e-mail client. I always Save As first to avoid problems like this. If Save As always works, but Open does not, then the problem is a Windows/Internet Explorer/Outlook Express one. Tracking it down could be a lengthy process, and fixing it may or may not be possible. When you Open the files, what program are they opening with?

me neither - just troubleshooting.

I get "this" problem using "save as" in Outlook2k, so how does doing so avoid the problem?
If Save As always works, but Open does not...
Save As always work via webmail, but not always with O2k.
"Open" does not work via O2k or webmail on the computer in question, but DOES work via webmail on my other pc (no email client on that one - hardwire net, btw).
As I see it, it must be a windows or network problem - pc in question is wireless net connect.
When you Open the files, what program are they opening with?
IE 5.5sp2 via "open" in webmail, else Irfanview 4.0.
Thanks, jdc2000

If Save As works with webmail, but not Outlook, then I'd say there is a problem with your Outlook database (.pst) file. Save As from web mail downloads the file from the ISP's server to your PC (or copies it from your Temporary Internet Files, which amounts to the same thing). Save As from Outlook copies it from your .pst file to a .jpg file on your PC. If it is corrupted in your .pst file, then it will be corrupted as a stand alone .jpg file.

As mentioned, I'm now thrown to deduce that it's not an Outlook2k (pst file) problem:

In other words, what I'm thinking is the problem can't be Outlook if it occurs even without using Outlook at all.

Have you tried FireFox and WebMail to see if the problem occurs there also? Outlook and Internet Explorer use some of the same functions when working with HTML mail, so the problem could be an IE issue also.
