    Mobile Athlon 64 3400+ cpu

I will be putting together a socket 754 system and would like to know if anyone knows how well the Mobile 3400+ cpu overclocks. It runs at 2.2Ghz stock with 1Mb L2 cache. I haven't decided if I want to go with that cpu but I know that the mobile chips run cooler and generally are great overclockers...provided you have a decent board and good ram.

According to this you can theoretically get up to a 50% overclock:

Impressive numbers...I wonder if those were achieved with water cooling. I may check out that forum and see if there are any details on those results.

I have an XP M-2000 in my daughter's system and I think that the board is holding the overclock down to only about a 350Mhz increase...from 1600Mhz stock to 1945Mhz...but it's real stable and quick and runs just fine so the only thing that I might want to do is get another socket A board for it since the floppy controller in the current board decided to quit working. Who knows...another board might let me increase the o/c.

I'm happy if I can get 10 to 15%. Any more than that is a real bonus

I've yet to build an Abit/Athlon combo that won't OC at least by 20%. I admit there are probably better mobos out there (maybe?) but I'm used to the SoftMenu setup. They aren't for the faint of heart, though.

I have been impressed with my Abit NV8 mobo; it allowed me to get an easy & stable 640Mhz increase with my 754 Venice chip; from 2000Mhz stock to 2640Mhz and that with just a small bump in chip voltage.

The board that I will be using for this other 754 system that I mentioned at the beginning of this thread will be another Abit NV8 and I hope to use the Mobile 3400+ chip...ought to be fun!!

The board(s) that everybody seems to rave about over in the Overclocker's Forum are the DFI Lanparty boards...would be fun to get one and see what all the excitement is about.
