Update on the Windows Ultimate Extras

The Windows Ultimate Extras Team today posted a short notice on the Windows Vista Ultimate site updating the community on the status of Ultimate Extras. They plan to deliver pending DreamScene and Language Pack Extras by summer's end.

    And then there's this:

When Microsoft announced that there would be six different versions of Windows Vista, everyone wondered how they could justify so many different SKUs for one OS. Sitting at the top of that mountain o' SKUs was Vista Ultimate, which promised "Ultimate Extras" as one selling point. Customers were led to believe that there would be plenty of cool and, more importantly, exclusive features for Vista Ultimate thanks to "Ultimate Extras."

Months have passed since the retail launch, and aside from Hold'Em and a few utilities, the Ultimate Extras have been nothing short of a no-show. Let's call them what they are: a total disappointment. In fact, it gets worse when Microsoft starts calling language packs "Ultimate Extras," as if I'm supposed to do flips over enhanced Korean language support. It was beginning to look like "Ultimate Extras" was a marketing ploy, and nothing else.

And I was so looking forward to the Northern Lithuianian Language Support for Part-time Swahili speakers....

Don't get me wrong....I like Vista Ultimate.....but the slow, slow, slow support for it leaves a somewhat bitter taste in my mouth*.....leaves me with a feeling that it was "not ready for prime time".

*Note: I have since quit chewing on the Vista CD case.
