    Windows Movie Maker keeps closing

    Please help.
    Computer info:
    AMD Athlon (tm)64 Processor
    2800+
    1.80 GHz
    448 MB RAM
Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002
    Service Pack 2
Microsoft Windows Movie Maker Version 5.1
    (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254: Service Pack 2
    Windows Movie Maker Version 2.0.3312.0
    Sony Handycam model DCR-HC26
    Fire Wire

Everytime I open the Movie Maker it comes up with an Error Report that says it has encountered a problem and needs to close. I send a report and it comes back that I need to go to a Microsoft link and run the updates. My computer has never been so fully updated. I have installed every possible update and it still closes the program. I did notice that when my Video camera was turned off, Windows Movie Maker doesn't close, as soon as I turn the camera on I'm back to square 1. The only other info I have is that while using this program before I had a power outage and the computer shut down. Since then I have been having this problem. I also tried reinstalling Windows Movie Maker. I am at a loss at what to do next.

    Thankyou So Much

I'd be surprised if it actually needed any MS updates to run properly. Has it ever run properly? (How about if the camera is unplugged.) If so try running a system restore to a point in time just before the problem started.

If that doesn't help then you could try reinstalling the firewire drivers although if the program closes even without the camera attached that probably wont' help (wouldn't hurt to eliminate that as a possibility and do it anyway).

Also worth trying is an sfc/scannow in case any MS system files are corrupted and causing a problem.
