    [Pro] indevidual drives

    Hi
it is me again, when I right click on any of my drives I get the drop down menu with strange characters, (please refer to picture 1) and when I double click on any drive trying to open it the drop down menu will ask me how to open (please refer to picture 2) it is really annoying, kindly tell me how to overcome this issue.
    Kind regards
    Ahmed

I'd run System File Checker (SFC) first. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD/DVD drive. Click Start | Run, type in:
    sfc /scannow
    and press [Enter].

(Note that SFC doesn't really report anything, it just silently replaces any corrupt or missing operating system files).

When that's done, head over to Microsoft Update and install at least all the 'Critical' updates:

    Also
Double click asking you how to open the drive suggests the drive association has been lost. Try this

    Scroll down to
“Some of the frequently used Tips & fixes for Windows XP”
    “Drive association fix for XP”

    http://windowsxp.mvps.org/

    Right click problem
This might be related to the above problem as it is "Explore" and "Open" which have changed to strange characters.
Maybe the above fix will cure this as well.

You had a bad case of trojans recently. Is this a new problem or could it still be malware related?

    Oh Dear

I can`t remember what I told you to run before, so try these

    Spybot Search and Destroy
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
Update it before running. Get it to fix all the RED entries it finds

    Housecall http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

    This is an excellent program
    SUPERAntiSpyware http://www.superantispyware.com/
    Download the free version

See how things are after running these

    Note
If your present problem has been caused by malware the fix won`t stick until the malware has been removed.
