NIC driver files

lets asume that im trying to use ms-client. The network adapter list does not have my network adapter listed so i need a floppy disk with the drivers on it.

Can i just copy files from my hard disk onto a floppy? I tried this already with 3 files, 2 .dll's and a system file which i found in my driver details dialogue box in win xp device manager.

Is that right? ms-client couldnt find the drivers on the floppy disk.

I probably have the drivers on cd somewhere (i hope) so should i just copy the ethernet drivers straight onto a floppy from there?

If it matters the NIC is a VIA Rhine II fast ethernet adapter.

Download and install PC WIZARD
http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php

With luck it will correctly ID the nic. Use the network icon on the left and read the ripght pane.

Now, is that card on board or pci?

The drivers tab tells me that theres no information available for this item

Its an on board NIC. I am considering just buying a pci NIC thats on the ms-client network adapter list or any NIC that comes with drivers on a floppy disk if i cant get this sorted

I found the driver cd for my pc and it contains lots of drivers for various Network adaptors. Unfortunately, none of them are the one that i have so its a pretty useless cd.

Sounds like a Dell and yes they do label the various drivers in such a manner that you can not tell what they are for.

Yes, I would get a pci nic abd disable the onboard then install the pci one.

Not a Dell. It was made by a company called Time. They're bankrupt now.

ok pci NIC it is. Any suggestions?

Time has been gone for some time.

A cheap one the uses realtech drivers have worked the best for me.
[$10 or so.]
The expensive ones are a fit to get the drivers installed.
