Record/Watch Sky/tv through PC

Ok I've confused myself AGAIN

Is this possible and IF so HOW?

Friend wants to take lead from Sky box with chanel changer plugged into it (gizmo thing supplied by sky) that uses sky remote. Plug lead into PC so he can a)record sky programs(doesn't want Sky+ box) and b)watch Sky on monitor as it is bigger than his portable.

Have tried using digital satellite TV card but that won't show encrypted chanels.

PC is XP (media)

well good luck their mate. my bro has a media center pc all set up pefectly but the one thing that escapes him is watching sky through it. i did a little bit of investigating and from what i found out sky have not licenced their encryption tech to any product and as such you can't just buy something that makes it work. i think some people may have manged it but a PHD in IT and communications might be needed, lol. good luck anyway
