Jerky or Shakey Cursor

This may not go in the section but the cursor seems to just go wild at times. It is making jerky or shakey movements and we cannot stop it on anything. It seems to land where it wants to and ten we can manage to move it to what we need to click on. It does it no mater what mouse we use and it does not do it all the time but enough to be annoying. Any ideas? Thanks.

The OS is Win XP Pro, IE, DSL.

Does it happen in Safe mode?

If so, it could be a driver or hardware issue.

If not, it could be caused by the software running on your computer in Normal mode, or, it could be someone jacking with you by remotely controlling your mouse.

Is this a cordless mouse? If so it could be interference. Make sure there is a good line of sight between the mouse and the reciever unit. Try pairing it on a differtent channel if possible.

Thanks for the replies. We cannot get it to boot in safe mode. We have tried it several times and it will not do it.

It is not a wireless mouse, either one of them.

We have stopped most programs from starting when we boot up, however some I am afraid to disable. Thanks for the help.

Try placing a white sheet of paper under the mouse..."Optical" mice don't work well with some colors of table tops.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the mouse drivers.

Yes, this sounds like a driver issue to me.

You said this happened to both mouses that you've used? What brand/product are they?

It is not a wireless mouse, either one of them.

Is it a mouse with a ball? If so, take the ball out and clean it with isopropyl alcohol or a moist cloth. Also clean the rollers inside the ball's cavity.
