DVDRW slower than CDRW? (For burning audio CDs that is)

So I recently built my new machine. I replaced my IDE CDRW with a new SATA DVDRW which claims that it can burn CDs at 48x. With Nero 6.x, I only get a max speed of 32x. I have used the same CDRs on my IDE CDRW before and burned them with a speed of 52x. So I know its not the media.

I updated the firmware on it and still the same issue. I also get an error in the end but CD is usable. I haven't burned any DVDs yet.

    Here is the DVDRW link.

Maybe that Nero 6 is a tad too old for your burner. Try updating to the latest version that Nero will allow, or download the trial of Nero 7 and see if that helps.

I never burn music at max speeds, I am deaf and can hear the differences.
I hope you are ripping them correctly at 4X so you get the best sounds.

I rip at 4x and Burn at 24X max!

^ This is all news to me. Whats the difference between "rip" and "burn?"

Also, when you use faster speed, the music quality goes down? I didn't know that.

I have created AUDIO CDs from MP3 using my CDRW drive for ages at 52x speed and hardly ever had problems.

You rip music from your cd(s) and place it on your computer.

Burn is what you do to place music on a cd.

Time to do some experimenting then.

Exact Audio Copy and read the links for the tutorials.

^ I guess I am burning then when I create AUDIO Cds from the MP3s that reside on my Hard Drive. This is what I was talking about when I said I used to burn at 52x speed with my CDRW. My new SATA DVDRW only lets me burn at 32x Max.

That is because it is seeing the cds as having a slower speed than your old burner.

In a way, that is good, because I have had to slow my speeds down to keep from makeing coasters. Particularly with graphics. We have to give the burner time enough to burn everything to the cd/dvd. Let us say, "Learned the hard way!

Next time, to keep the music in MP3 format, burn them as data and not audio. That way you can get about 10 hours of music at 128 bit rate, on a cd. About 50 hours on a dvd.
