    Cannot install latest MS Updates

I cannot install the updates listed below. I have XP Home SP2 and have snoozed Avast Home v 4.7 with latest updates and turned off ZA Version 7.0.337, but it still won't let me update. I want to use IE 7 and get the other OS updates but when Windows Updates starts downloading each file, it says "Failed." I also changed the control panel to allow automatic downloads from MS and installation but no help.

    Thank you!

If you click on the more info links for each of those updates in Windows Update, it should link to a page about the update where you can download it as a .exe file. That's normally my first step when things fail, because even if the standalone version fails you'll probably get a more useful error.

I tried downloading each file individually and it still says "Setup Error: Installation did not complete". I disabled my Avast and turned off ZA.

If you go to the windows folder and look up the file WindowsUpdate.log.It will open in notepad and post the last few error messages related to these updates.

I have posted here the last few days of unsuccesful updating. I had to cut it short and put in the most recent days as the attachment exceeded the 1Mb limit.

    Thank you!

Can you go into Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services and check that the Automatic Updates and Background Intelligent Transfer Service services are both started and set to Automatic?

I've found Dial-A-Fix to work everytime when having Windows update problems. Give it a try.
