A tale of Dell woe
It does make you wonder how they ever got to be the biggest Though I have to say that I love my Dell stuff (monitors, printer and PDA), and my one and only customer support experience really wasn't too bad, though it also could have been better.

They got to be large cause most of their customers never need service/support
I've been using Dells on the job and at home since the 386 days. I can count the number of times I've had to contact support on one hand.
Monday morning I did a few emails back n forth with support. Tuesday morning before 10am I have a new mobo installed by them in a notebook.
On another occassion I had a one month old hard drive that had to be replaced. Got kind of upset when the new one showed up with a refurb sticker on it...But to my pleasant surprise, the darn thing had a image on it was was all ready to go...
But all medium to large companies have horror stories like the one in the link. And in theory, if Michael Dell were to read it, he'd puke
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

I used to recommend Dell's to my consulting clients before I retired 9 years ago. Personally, I've used HP products from 9000 series to business PCs and notebooks. Last year HP did not have a Core2 Duo product in a 5 pound notebook so I purchased a couple of Dell Latitude D620's. IMO Dell has gone down hill in terms of product service and the quality of their software. Vista has been out for almost 6 months (mid-November 2006). Dell has yet to release drivers for all the hardware contained in the Latitude notebook line. They are telling me it will be "only" a few more months before all the hardware drivers and the associated software will be released. Thanks Dell for selling knowingly crippled systems. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I won't be fooled a second time.
