0x886a6b72 on HP 2610 Printer

Someone gave me a HP Photosmart 2610 printer / fax / scanner /copier.

They said there was a huge storm and afterwards their phone line was out and also the printer when turned would just flash lights.

I plugged it in to a power point and let it power up and the little colour screen had fatal error 0x886a6b72 like a little mini BSOD.

Google http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=e...G=Search&meta= seems to show that the printer is stuffed - should I even bother attempting to get a fix price or just turf it.

They apparently got it replaced under extended warrantly and got a 3310 as a replacement so they don't want it back.

I'd say it's stuffed Nix. I assume during the thunderstorm there was a fax/phone line plugged in and picked up the strike to the printer from that. Besides, it would probably cost you more to get it serviced than it would be to buy a new one.

I was away in Fiji at the time and when we returned, my nephew who had been house minding for us said that he could not use the internet on our PC the day after the storm.

When I started it up to try and work out why I went to device manager and it said the internal ethernet card had been disabled by windows because it was not working properly. It asked me if I wanted windows to enable it, I said yes and it worked just fine.

So seems like we were lucky, but the guy across the road (who owns the printer) was not so lucky.

I'm surprised the neighbors didn't lose more than just a printer. Thunderstorms just aren't particular what they blow up.
