    Higher CD-R Prices Forcast

Probably Off Topic, but of interest...from PC World:

"CD-R Media Prices to Triple This Summer"

Lot's of good deals on CD-R's out there now. May not last forever.

Funny, I just read a printout last night from one of the providers of CD's at my local computer suppply store. They had it taped to the counter.

It said the same thing and used as one of the reasons that there will be a glut on the market.

Since when does a glut correspond to higher prices. Are we getting ripped again?

Well, it's kinda like Greenspan saying "there is no inflation"...while fuel prices started the uphill climb.

The truth probably has more to do with "installed base". Most folks have their burners and media working, and have been able to take advantage of attractive pricing. Looks like the major producers have decided it's time to see what the market will bare.

My take is...the article is an attempt to innoculate sticker shock...and increase demand.

    cost, demand, elasticity
    bizz major told me.

If 1 ton of carbonate goes up 15 bucks
seven grammes of the stuff goes up???
or could it be the coating?
    Gotta be demand.
    (or taxes)
    Kind regards, Jaak.

It's like George Eastman said decades ago when he started making and selling cameras and film (Kodak). "Let's give the cameras away for free and get them on repeat business for film". You only need that one piece of hardware - it's the software that will get you every time. Maybe Detroit should buy up all the gas companies and give their cars away. Gotcha!! JC
