Can't remove all
Hi to all: Daughter has problem, kinda. Can't totally remove, it would seem, her free version of AVG. When going via the program on desktop, uninstall feature or via the add/remove feature, she gets message that it can't be "installe." Kinda odd. Was able to help her pull some of the features off via recycle bin, but other parts remain behind. There used to be an add/remove program that would pull the horns of satan, and I don't know its name anymore, nor where it's to be found. I really hate to mess with the Registry. Also when she does a search via search feature, elements of the AVG appear but resisit being removed. I need a real cleaner that will get rid of the residue. Would it help matters to download the program and just reinstall, hopeing that it will voerwirte the current mess. Grateful to all at this site. Regards, Jim S. PS: She's using Win XP Pro

Tried
Hi: Thanks again for the lead. Daughter says she tried download as instructed and has difficulty installing, and too, seems to get the same problem no mamtter what she tries. Would a search of the program elements and then a delete assist the cleanup? I note when a search of files and folders is done quite a bit of the remaining debris of AVG is reflected. Don't know what else to suggest to her except perhaps doing an msconfig and unchecking the startup AVG item in that location. Jim S.

Hi Jim1,
The best program I know of for cleaning out the dregs of "uninstalled" programs is JV16 Power Tools. It can be found at http://www.macecraft.com/. An older (freeware) version which should do nicely for your purposes can be found at http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=jv16

Got it
May the real bunny of Easter place many nuggets of chocolate in your basket! Will work on it this weekend. I think, moons ago, I worked with this program and it did the trick at that time. Happy holiday to all who contribute at this site. Regards, Jim S.
