Error: Not Enough Memory burning DVD with Nero
So I installed an LG DVD model tba burner in my brothers PC. Slave on secondary IDE
It came with Nero Express version 6.?.?.? (Version tba)
Anyway when it's all set up, I go through the various menus to pick the option of burning a data DVD and add about 3.5GB data to a project.
When I select to burn, the log gets an Error: Not Enough Memory message and a dialog displays saying that an error has been detected that could cause failure of the burn and do I want to continue.
I say yes and it burns the DVD just fine.
Burning / Copying CDs gives no errors and DVD movies can be watched with no issue.
The error only pops up for data DVD (well so far in my limted testing).
The machine is a P4 with 512Mb ram running WinMe.
The swap file is on the first partition of the second HD minimum 1Gb max 4Gb but I've also tried letting windows manage it with no difference.
The cache directory for nero is pointing to a 32Gb partition on the second HD so no space issues.
I've tried googling but didn't have much luck - maybe a bit brain dead with my search terms.
I've always used Roxio in the past and even on my new PC the apps are Sonic which I think is Roxio anyway - so my navigation skills of Nero leave a lot to be desired.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

If the Windows\Temp folder has a ton of files in it could cause the error.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

Nix, I noticed you said you have this drive as a slave. Try Master and it may cure your problems. Burners, either cd or dvd like being the master drive.

Good one Usil. LOL
PL there is a BENQ CDRW as master.
As he also wanted ITunes installed which required XP or 2000, i decided to install the DVD software in Win2000 also and it doesn't get the same problem so I think maybe it is just something quirky to WinMe.
Incidentally with WinMe, I find that if there is no DVD media in the burner the choice of speed for burning is:
Maximum (default)
2.4x
2x
1x
Whereas if I put the DVD media in I get the choice of:
16x (default)
12x
8x
4x
If I drop to 2.4x without media, the error goes and it asks me to insert media.
With media present I have to drop to 4x before the error disappears.
In Win2k it works just fine.
So I think I'll tell my brother just to ignore the error in WinMe as you can opt to continue anyway or burn on Win2K as it works fine.

Yeah, on what I said, but DVD burners like to be Master.
Probably as you said, just an ME quirk. I hear that OS has a lot of those.

Maybe I'll swap em around and see what happens just to satisfy my own curiosity.
