How to get out of safe mode

My next door neighbor asked me to take a look at her computer and I determined that the psu was dead and so was the board. I tried a good psu and the board was still dead.

I took the hdd...an old ( don't laugh!) Seagate 4.3 Gig with 98SE and hooked it up to my other system by just switching the Ide cable & power connectors. It boots right up but only in safe mode. I ran the tool that checks for drive errors...it found none...and then defragged it. So the hdd seems to be in good shape.

Is there something simple that I am missing? She had dial up for access and I have cable modem...does that have anything to do with this?

When I first booted up, there were lots of "found new hdw"...and it loaded tons of new hdw. & drivers...but there were some pci devices that it could not find drivers for: communication, ethernet controller,USB device...all of these are present when I have the original hdd hooked back up.

I have a couple more questions but let's start with this safe mode first...

I take it you tried to boot to the hdd and got that far.

Now you need to install your mobo drivers.

I normally boot with a hdd like that as a slave. That way I can save what is on it.

Train...yes, I can boot right up with this old Seagate hdd hooked up in place of the other hdd. I can get to Desktop...but in safe mode only.

I am using the system that I have been building for my daughter...the A7A133 system. So I need to load the A7A133 drivers onto this Seagate hdd?

Can I hook up the Seagate hdd as slave and transfer the drivers from the other hdd?

You're better off using the mobo CD to install the drivers; if something doesn't want to install, you'll be told what it is and why it won't install.

Well...that's a little bit of a problem...I never had the cd for the board. The little computer store where I had this A7A133 system built didn't give me the cd. But...is that what is keeping that hdd in safe mode....needing the mobo drivers? Can I get the drivers at the Asus site?

I'm not really concerned about it right now....at least I know that the hdd is okay...and it has 98SE...so when I get another board that I can use this hdd with , hopefully the board will have the cd.

When I told my neighbor that the psu and the board were both dead but that I could get another board and psu and get it running again, she told me just to keep it all...she can use her daughter's laptop whenever she needs to check her e-mail or get online for something...which she rarely does. It's a micro-atx...the board doesn't have any name on it but it's an Athlon xpp ( has an extra 'p' ??)...SIS550 chipset...

I was kinda wanting to get it to active desktop so I could download Everest and find out some particulars about the system. The case has a logo that says "Zsystems".

Oh well...I can spend a few ( hopefully just a few) bucks and turn this into a nice basic system...good for surfing...e-mailing...real basic stuff.
