Outlook 2002 .pst file is too big...

So, I've hit the max. What I now know is that my pst file has hit the maximum size - 2Gb). Does anyone know how to compress or modify the pst file so I can get Outlook working again?

    Thanks.

Microsoft always has answers to common problems:

Oversized PST and OST crop tool

Thanks for that. I found the cropping tool after posting this thread and used it. I then used scanpst.exe to scan for, and repair, errors. Errors were found, however the repair function becomes unresponsive. I havent been able to use the cropped pst file. Suggestions?

    Thanks again,

I have managed to delete a bunch of stuff (sent items etc) so that Outlook is sending and receiving mail again. My problem now is that Outlook seems to have duplicate in-box, sent item, dleted items etc folders (one set inside the other). This, I think, was caused by my importing the pst file twice. Is there a way to move the contents of one to the other - or just start over with an "empty" outlook and import the pst once?

    Hi Magill,

I do not know how to help with the latest problems you have.

However, in terms of size I suggest to use the Auto Archive feature in the Tools-->Options section. This allows you to cut down the .pst file size.
(One can create multiple archive.pst files, e.g. one for each year)

Hope you can use this once your current issues are resolved.

Oh, before I forget - Upgrading to Office 2003 allows for significantly larger pst files.

    Cheers
