[RESOLVED] corrupt registry?
hello everybody.
upon trying to reinstall mysql i had a problem. i googled the problem and i was led to believe that deleting all mysql entries from the registry was the thing to do. i did this and now i get an error when trying to run the installer and i think i may have deleted some entry that handles the mysql installer or something. i dont know. the message is
'the configuration data for this product is corrupt. contact your support personnel'
obviously you guys are my support personnel so im contacting you. i have tried to re-download the installer but i get the same message. thats why i believe it to be a windows problem rather than a mysql issue.
any ideas?
xp home sp2 by the way

Hello themanwhowas
I think it would be worth running the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. It won`t do any harm as you will just be looking for mysql.
Read the instructions here before using it. There is a download link too
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=290301
Only remove anything you find for mysql. If it has not installed at all there might be a blank entry in the list.
If you use this utility to remove the Windows Installer configuration information for mysql you should reinstall it in the same folder where you originally tried to install it. This prevents duplication of files on your hard disk.

dunedin, if a kiss as big as the one you deserve could be downloaded without the need to purchase extra bandwidth then i would hire someone to do that for me.
at first glance i saw no entries for mysql and my heart sank, but on re-reading your post you said about blank entries. there was one and after i deleted it mysql(4.1) installer works.
thank you so much

Something like this maybe?

Consider it done.
I`m just happy to have helped.
