    Resolved [RESOLVED] [Pro] Windows Freezes

    Hi there
I'm using XP Pro SP2 fully updated.
For 3-4 days now XP is coming up with some random lock-ups.I can't determine when that happens. The mouse freezes, the keyboard follows and then nothing is responding.
In Event Viewer>Application, I get these errors when the lock-ups occur:

Date etc... Source: LoadPerf Type: Error Category: None EventID: 3011 User etc...
    Description:
Unloading the performance counter strings for service WmiApRpl (WmiApRpl) failed. The Error code is the first DWORD in Data section.

    Same error with EventID 3012
    Description:
The performance strings in the Performance registry value is corrupted when process Performance extension counter provider. BaseIndex value from Performance registry is the first DWORD in Data section, LastCounter value is the second DWORD in Data section, and LastHelp value is the third DWORD in Data section.

Only thing I've done so far is a scan with Avast! which is going on as we speak. It has cleared 2-3 worms so far.Any other ideas?
    Have a nice day

The error could be related to a problem with your registry.

    Hope this helps.
The true test of character is not how much we
know how to do, but how we behave when we don't know what to do

Well, I have to admit that performance counters are a whole new meaning for me . I didn't even know that such a thing existed.
    I've tried this solution
    Fred Logan
This event occurred running Windows 2000 Server on a Dell Poweredge 4600. It was eliminated by running the following command:
    lodctr /r: c:\winnt\system32\perfstringbackup.ini
So far it's on for a day without any kind of problem.Seems to do the job.
    Thanx jmtjet
