Spyware finding program. Free??
Hello all, cannot afford the $29 for a spyware removal program.
Is there one out there for free?
I ran one which found a few trojans/diallers
In the registry and in mydocuments etc could not locate them in the registry as the full path was not given.
The program i downloaded and ran was Spyhunter $29.95 approx
Anything that will do the same for free?
Thanks, GEP

No need to pay for spyware removal programs
Adaware SE, Spybot S&D and MS Windows Defender all do a great job, for free.

Re:Free Program
Hello, thanks for your replies.
Have Zone alarm, A-Squared, Ad-aware, Winpatrol, Superantispyware, Spywareblaster, Hi-Jackfree, Ccleaner, Norton Av, Windows defender.
Tried the above, still in the registry etc.
Tried to locate them, no luck.
Any program like Spyhunter that free?
Thanks, GEP

No, and it's a good thing too. I Googled Spyhunter, and not one of the first 100 hits was a legitimate download site such as CNET, Majorgeeks.com, etc. The hits that came up are from companies that seem to be affiliated with the one that makes Spyhunter - rather convenient.
If Spyhunter is finding stuff that the good programs aren't, I'd get rid of Spyhunter.

gep--What specific malware is it that you are trying to remove, but cannot? Sometimes you have to use a method other than a conventional Spyware removal program.
And now you may have to get rid of whatever malware SpyHunter may have given you.

Here's what it is giving as spyware.
Zlob.trojan Hkey_Current_Users 5 mentions in registry
onestat.com c;documents and settings
NetNucleus Hkey_Current_Users

Thanks, GEP

SpyHunter doesn't get too many good recommendations.. read this..
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm
SpyHunter -- at least in its current state -- cannot be recommended because of its mediocre performance as an anti-spyware scanner
I would ignore what it says and use a much better scanner like AVG/Ewido and/or Microsofts defender.

gep--I must leave VDr soon, so I suggest you Google for each of those baddies and see if you can find a removal suggestion. (Just beware of references that want you to pay to remove. )
Doing that for Zlob.trojan you get
http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...=Zlob%2Etrojan
The ExpertsExchange reference says Zlob.trojan is part of SmitFraud and suggests
http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php
And/or to remove remaining Registry bits for Zlob.trojan see Section 4 of this reference
http://www.symantec.com/security_res...917-99&tabid=3
This reference is pushing Norton AV, but you should be able to do the other stuff recommended with other good AV programs.

GEP, please bear in mind that Spyhunter may very well be giving you false positives--either deliberately, to encourage purchase of the product, or innocently which would make it a suspect program as fink has pointed out. Either way, I wouldn't trust those search results at all. I do not advise going fishing in the Registry to remove items that may or may not even be there. If other, more reputable and proven programs have come up clean, I'd be satisfied with that in this case.

Yep, you pay for the propram, so it then can infect you with malware, after telling you all kinds of lies. It can be a toughfy to clean up behind after the uninstall. Some version do not have the uninstaller.
Surprising what you can learn when you open up a dll file from something like that. Shudder

Re:Free Program
