IE7 not displaying GIFs
Hi all,
I just got IE7 and it seems to be working fine, except it will not display GIFs such as emoticons or avatars in some forums. Instead it just shows the text, i.e. "(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif). " Is there some security setting I need to change?

Dickster--Since no one else has responded, I'll make some guesses.
Is this happening on all sites that have .gif images?
1) If no, it could be that the person who coded the site did not code it properly. That IMG code does not look right to me.
2) If yes, perhaps you do not have .gif files associated with any program that opens .gif files. Find any .gif file on your hard drive and click on it. Does it open? If yes, then read no further. I cannot help. If not, find any .gif file on your hard drive. Right click|Open With|choose a program (like MSPaint, Irfanview, IE, Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, etc.)|OK. Does the .gif file open? If yes, repeat Right click|Open With, but this time choose "Choose Program"|highlight the program that worked, and check the box at the bottom "Always use the selected program..."|OK.
If it did not open, again I do not think I can help, except to suggest you click IE Tools|Internet Options|Advanced tab and be sure the box "Show images" is checked.

Now that you mention it, it is only one particular site that has the problem. I checked some other forums (like this one!) and the GIFs display just fine. So you may be right about the coding.

Dickster--I hope that resolves the problem. If not, post back.
And here is what "big grin" looks like
