[Pro] Re:Lines across screen
Hello All, funny one here, my wife was on here windows no problems, i go on mine, screen start acting up, black lines going across screen, shaking, also seeing the another windows screen come up shaking, then it goes ok again. Then it starts again.
At present no problems, but it starts up again every so often.
Have checked the monitor, seems thats not the problem. Wires in the computer firmly. No downloads lately. Ran Norton, Adaware no real problems.
Did a System restore.
Have windows media XP computer. No problems other than the above.
At present this is the longest spell three mins without acting up in half an hour.
Hard drive was working a lot when the problem starts but is quiet at present.
Any ideas?
Thanks, GEP

Re:Lines etc
Hello Supersparks and all, its the same on my wifes, my daughters as well.
Meant to say i cannot do a system restore for some reason, gone back to two different dates, still will not restore.
Still lines, welcome screen is doubled and and shivers quickly.
I can use the computer perfectly, except for the shaking lines etc putting me off, lol.
Its not my broadband connection, as i disconnected it for awhile.
One minute its ok, next it shakes etc for awhile.

Video card (or chip) on it's way out. If you have a card, probably need to replace it. If you have video integrated on the motherboard you can add a video card IF you have a slot for it on the board . . . you don't tell us your specs.

What kind of monitor are you using? CRT? LCD? Your problem sounds a little like RF interference, too.

Re:Lines etc
Hello ProfessorU and all, have a LCD 19" 13 months old or so.
Have just turned on my PC and nothing, no lines, no jumping, just peace.
Cannot think what interference could have caused the jumping, though anythings possible.
Will keep an eye on it for a day or so, if it happens again, i will come back.
Thanks, GEP

You could check the monitor lead connections and reseat the graphics card if its AGP or PCI as bad or intermittant connections can also cause these issues [as can video card overheating].

You may be able to check the GPU temp with Everest (it depends on the particular card whether you can or not).

Re:Lines etc
Hello all, seems that all the interference has gone.
Been nearly 2 days now and not a flicker.
Don't know fully what it was, but, as long as it stays in the past don't much care.
Thanks for your replies, if it does come back will have to take a closer look.
Put it as resolved for now.
GEP
