Widows XP Home Start Up and Shut Down

I recently had a Trojan Virus (do not remember the name) I was able to get rid of it using Spy Doctor. I ran it three times until I made sure it was gone. I also ran McAfree and Trend Micro and all was good. What happen was this. When I start my machine it now come up with the window to put in my user name ansd password. I do use a password so I just click OK and it boots up and appears to be fine. Previously it just booted right up to my desk top (no eser name or password box) which is what I want to happen. How can I restore that?

When I go to Start Shut Down I use to get three buttons, one for log off, one for restart and one for shut down. I now have a drop down box to do this. How can I go back to the three button window?

I have attached a screen shot of the shut down screen but I cannot get a screen shot of the start up screen.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Can't be too sure, but it may be in Control Panel > User Accounts > Change the way users log on or off - you may need to put a check in the 'Use the Welcome Screen'.

This suggestion is a guess as I do not use Home Edition - I see this issue a lot, but its for XP Pro when a PC joins a domain.

Thanks for you quick reply. In control panel/user accounts and the way users log in I needed to put a check in ther box to fo back to the way it was. This took care of both issues. Thanks for your help.

Another issue cam e up while I was in control pane making this change. My McAfree there was a mshta.exe file that is suppicious. I have attached a pdf of that also. Can these three files be deleted without harm. I don't know what it is.

    Thanks again

    C:\windows\system32
    C:\windows\system32\dllcache
Are valid locations. per my computer search.

You can take of the prefetch one by empting the prefetch.

But knowing one AV can find stuff another will miss, I suggest do an online virus scan with at least two of the below site:

    Housecall at TrendMicro
    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hou.../start_corp.asp
Make sure you tick Auto Clean

    BitDefender Free Online Virus Scan
    http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php
Make sure you tick AutoClean under Scan Options

    Panda ActiveScan
    http://www.pandasoftware.com/active...n_principal.htm
Make sure you tick Disinfect automatically under Scan Options

    eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner

Thank for the web sites. I did run two of them of them. I had run Trend Micro before. The one site did find 7 Spywares, however it would not clen them because you then had to purchese it.
All seems to be working well now.
    Thanks for your help.
