    Resolved [RESOLVED] Avast & ZoneAlarm

    OS: XP pro
    CPU: Pent D 805
    RAM: 1 GB

    Hey all,

I'm looking for a low resource using PC protection solution.

Just a few quick questions. I've been using NIS/NAV 2006 for a few weeks now and I'm appalled by the amount of resources it hogs on startup, it takes several minutes before I can startup any programs and I can only imagine how slow it would go if I didn't have a dual core and a gig of ram *shudder*.

I've been looking around this morning for some new solutions. I used clamwin for quite a while as an AV solution, but never really had the opportunity to see how effective it is. I'm impressed by the options given by the avast!4 Home edition and I've seen positive comments all over the web, I'm pretty sure I'll go with that.

The avast!4 home offers some resident protections along with network and web shields, are those comparable to a firewall? For example should I be going with ZoneAlarm (firewall) and avast!4 (AV) or would avast!4 along with ad-aware (for spyware) be enough to protect my pc?

I've also seen the ZoneAlarm Suite mentioned quite a bit here and elsewhere, how would that be on my system resources as well?

Trying to keep my options open. I can afford ZoneAlarm Suite, but free is always nice!

    Thanks beforehand for your time!

Zone Alarm Security Suite would be a nice choice, as it is everything rolled together, so the resources aren't sucked out of the system, you do need a firewall, so there would be no sense in running avast and Ad-aware, if you want to go the free route then i'd use ZA Free, avast and Ad-aware, if you want to go the paid route, then i'd recommend ZA SS, i've been using it for 4-5 years, with no problems, and the new version is arriving in early 2007, and the AV is from Kaspersky in that version (7.0).

Thanks I just needed a confirmation on those options. I'll start with the 3 program solution for now since its free and see how that works. I've never used ZA before, so we'll see!
