I haven't run downstairs to fire up my XP, but in Win98 there is a folder called "Cursors"; I hope there is a similar folder in XP. You could check the dates of files in that folder to tell you when the dates of the files had been changed, because you know your cursors have been changed. Given that date, do a system search to find which other files had been changed on that date. And there you might have your clue.
Chas
the edit -scratch this, you already reinstalled, oh well, we'll never know

Train....I know it was similar to the "I" beams.....but slightly different and also had that pink highlight thing. Someone earlier mentioned it looked like it belonged to a graphics program of some kind. Nobody Graphic design Forums could identify it either....
Chaszal....I never thought to check the dates....but it definitely wasn't in the cursor folder. It had to be coming from someplace else. I even tried removing all the text slect I-beam cursors and seeing if I would at least error out in notepad. No effect....
At any rate....the new re-install of windows is working fine. Hardware is fine. Had to grab 68 updates from MS and am still reinstalling programs....but so far so good. Unless someone else comes along with the same trouble...I doubt we will ever know what happened.
