EntDrv51.sys Blue Screen Please Help!
Hey Guys, asking for your help one more time. I have a Gateway Laptop 7426 running XP Home SP2. I had a version of Mcafee running on the computer. Went to school and techs wanted to install their own Mcafee Enterprise. School is over and tried to use my version and now I get BSOD:
Stop: 0x0000008E(0x00000005,0xB76A65CD,0xB770DB94,0x00000000)
EntDrv51.sys - Address B76A65CD base at B76A6000, DateStamp 42f7a3fb
I did some research EntDrv51.sys is definitely a Mcafee file that has something to do with firewalls. Everything I have read says it is conflicting with some other firewall so I decided to uninstall all Mcafee software altogether. Rebooted and still get the same message. I can boot into Safe Mode no problem and when I search for EntDrv51.sys it shows up in C:\Program Files\Mcafee.com\antivirus and C:\Windows\system32\drivers.
What do you think is starting this up if Mcafee is gone? Can I just delete the two files? Do I need them?

Okay, here is an update. I renamed the two files to EntDrv51.old and rebooted. No more BSOD. Can I just delete the EntDrv51.old file in the drivers folder and delete the whole Mcafee.com folder? I am not going to use Mcafee again.

Hello jpw2ch
It should be safe to delete them as they are just Mcafee files. If you want to take precautions leave them in the Recycle Bin for a while.
Also search the registry for Mcafee. Back up the keys and then delete them.

If it ain't broke, leave it alone.
