Can't play media files in Windows Media Player
Everytime I try to open a media file in Windows Media Player, I get the following error:
C00D11CD: Unknown error
Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error. This can occur when another program or operating system component encounters a problem but does not communicate the nature of the problem to Windows Media Player.
Error ID = 0xC00D11CD, Condition ID = 0x00000000
The issue seems to have started after I deleted a number of files from my computer. I think I may have accidentally deleted something important by mistake, but since the error message won't go into any kind of detail as to the exact nature of the problem, I'm rather at a loss as to where to start. If anyone here has any ideas, they'd be most appreciated.

Well, I tried installing the latest version of Media Player. I still can't open media files, but now I get error message C00D11B1 instead. According to the help page, there's something wrong with my sound device. But none of their suggestions really seem to make sense. My speakers and sound card are installed properly, and the drivers are up to date. So I once again find myself at a loss.
So far, the files that it seems to be having a problem with include MPEG-2, AVI, and MP3. Is there perhaps some codec that I need?

Try installing/reinstalling these codec packs
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...cdownload.aspx
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...Codec_Pack.htm
(standard pack is good for most users)
But first it's also possible you've deleted some system files so I'd try an SFC /scannow to replace/repair any
