Virtual PC 2007 optimized for Windows Vista

Alex Heaton has some news to share with Virtual PC 2007 beta that was released Oct 11. In his own words....

Virtual PC 2007 Beta is now available as a free download from connect.microsoft.com. Virtual PC 2007 is optimized to work well for Windows Vista as both the host and guest OS. This version works with both 32-bit Vista and 64-bit Vista as the host operating system as well as Windows XP and has improved performance including support for hardware virtualization technologies from AMD and Intel. So now you have an easy way to try out Windows Vista, even if you are reluctant to replace the OS on one your existing PCs; or if you have already taken the plunge you can spin up a legacy operating system in a virtual machine on your Windows Vista machine.

From a Mod/MVP on another site:

I gave VPC2007 a short spin on WinXP Pro Host.

    First preliminary impressions.

If you already have VPC2004 with few Guests that are in Saved Mode, start the Guests and turn them off before you upgrade.

VPC2007 would install on top, and replace VPC2004.

Since it is beta, some screens would say 2003 or 2004 as though it is the old VPC but the end if the About states “Microsoft Virtual PC 601.122.0” you got VPC2007.

You need to install again the Additions. On my system, I needed to go through two boots with each Guest before it “Calmed Down”.

Otherwise, I did not have any loses or any overt trouble.

As on VPC2004; No USB support on VPC2007 Beta.

I tried, Win98se, Win2000, and WinXP Pro as guests, all worked smoothly and slightly faster than before the upgrade.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.
