Convert old WordPerfect doc to Word ?

In 1995 my sister worked as a secretary in an office that used WordPerfect. (She's not sure of the version, she said right after she left on maternity leave they switched to Word.) Then she started her family, opting to be a stay at home mom. Now she's decided to enter the work force again. Problem is, she didn't print out a hard copy of her resume. And she has her resume stored on that floppy in WP format, and we don't know anyone that uses WP anymore.

Is there any good software out there anyone can suggest that will convert a WP document to Word? She's not worried if it's neat and tidy, she's just trying to retrieve pertinent dates, salary info, etc. (On a tight budget, if I can find her something that's freeware or will work in trial period, she'd be happy )

    Appreciate any help!

What happens when she tries to open them in Word?

MS has a free MS Word viewer Only program...
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

Hi Katmac looking on google suggests word or star office will read the file.I dare sya they just need the correct plug-in installed from the CD.If your stuck PM a copy and I`ll see about converting it for you.

    WordPerfect
WordPerfect is a popular word processing application from Corel. Most other office suites (e.g., StarOffice, Lotus, Word) can read WordPerfect files.

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for the reply. (A little bit of backround: my sister is terrified to touch just about anything on her laptop, sure she'll cause it to self-destruct. Much as I try to walk her through things on the phone, and hold her hand, we just can't get beyond that newbie fear stage. I couldn't even coax her to use Ad-Aware. Finally after my nieces had been to Nick Jr a gazillion times, and her PC slowed to a crawl, that's when she caved and started to use it )

I just called my sister to ask her what you asked.
Her reply: "I got a message that said 'something, something.'
I asked if she could see anything of her resume at all?
Her reply: "You know me, I got that message and I got scared, so I x'd out of it. And it was quite a while ago, so I don't really remember."

So the MS Word view only program, would that enable her to at least see the WPerfect data on the floppy?

I know I'm going to have to walk her through this on the phone. That's gonna be fun (No, in all seriousness, once I can coax her to make a move, she's OK)

    From the Word help file
Microsoft Word provides file format converters that enable Word to open documents that were created in older versions of WordPerfect. If your document was created in a version of WordPerfect that is later than 6.x, save it in an older WordPerfect format before you open it in Word.

Note Word does not provide a converter for saving a Word document as a WordPerfect file. However, you may be able to open your Word document directly in WordPerfect. For more information, consult your WordPerfect documentation.

    Converting from WordPerfect 5.0, 5.1, and 5.2
You can use the WordPerfect 5.x converter to open WordPerfect 5.x documents in Office Word 2003. You cannot save an Office Word 2003 document in WordPerfect 5.x format.

Note When you convert a document from WordPerfect 5.x to Office Word 2003, you can use the Font Substitution button on the Compatibility tab of the Options dialog box to choose the fonts to use.

Ah, 104... I didn't see your post, as I was posting.

That looks simple enough. Think we can manage it!

Thanks! And thanks for the offer to convert if we get stuck. You're alright

Have to run errands, she's picking kids up from school, so it will be a couple hours before I can get back to this. Will let you know.

    Thanks so much!

    Hi KatMac,
You might look at PolyEdit http://www.polyedit.com/ (from the developer of the freeware Cryptedit) I believe it's now shareware; it should easily do the conversion for you. Sadly, the MS marketing team managed to get so many companies to switch from WP to the inferior Word.
