    Flashing BIOS

    Looking for the best answer for ever needing to flash the bios. I thought it was only needed when a m/b manufacturer had certain problems with a certain board. Thanks

    It can open up support for faster memory, or a better processor, they are the 2 main reasons, other than specific problems that will be fixed with an update, and they are usually listed on the mobo manufacturers website.

    I agree with lgbpop. I have had/used PCs for several years and never needed to do it. (And I do feel the same way about my dentist! (Who just cost me $400 in the last 2 weeks... )

    BSOD = BIOS update. Also, I've seen plenty of benchmarks (esp. gaming and networking) get a 5-10% bump after a BIOS revision. If you bought the first edition of a new board, definitely update the BIOS when it's available. It's not as risky as these worrywarts make it sound, assuming you have a UPS.

    I only upgrade the bios when I install a brand new OS. Risky otherwise to your current set-up.
