Resolved [RESOLVED] [ME] My desktop is empty

Ok so last night after a non specific reboot I got a mesage that the registry was damaged and that windows would reboot.

It did and basically came to my desktop, played the Windows Startup sound and thats it.

    No Icons.

    No Task Bar.

Just a mouse pointer which I can move around but do nothing with.

When I Ctrl-Alt-Delete the only thing running is DEVLDR16.EXE.

Tried going into safe mode and the same thing, other than it's in safe mode.

What to do (other than ditch WinMe) ?

Boot from a floppy and restore the registry to a previous working date?

Change the boot order to Floppy first, (in CMOS/BIOS Setup). Boot up from a Startup floppy diskette (System Disk) and at the A:\> prompt type the following three commands, pressing [Enter] after each:
    c:
    cd \windows\command
    scanreg /restore
Select a date prior to the problem.

Note: If you don’t have a Startup diskette, you can download a program to create one for you one from www.bootdisk.com.

    Eureka that worked.

For some bizarre reason I had completely forgotten about scanreg /restore.
