USB 2.0 not working
Hi All--Sorry for double post--But I thought I'd better pop in here and try to explain a bit better...I FORMATED and Re-Installed XP Pro....Everything is Going GREAT Except for my USB 2.0...I have a Trust PCI USB 2.0 4 port.
This was Working PERFECT before I Reinstalled XP....
Before, I only had SP1 & part of SP2 installed......Well you all know me! I HATE SP2..Well I decided this time around to Follow you lot n Bite me Pride n Install Everything..FULL SP2...Since then I can Not get my USB 2.0 to work..Only works as USB 1.1...I think its the Via Drivers for USB that Microcrap puts in..(i could be wrong) Was there a Fix for this at one time..I know there was a kb822603 fix, but that was for SP1..This fix won't install with SP2...
This is Not on This PC that is in my Sig--This is Working 100% without SP2..
It is in my Old KG7 machine...Is there a REG fix or will I have to UNinstall ALL of SP2 one at a Time first (big Headache if so).....If I install the Drivers from Disk Not even the USB 1.1 will work...
If you need any further info just ask.......THANKS ALL...
P.S---Learnt a lot from you lot in here but this un Eludes me!!
P.P.S---Where is DRMDJ these days ?

Been awhile, but I think VIA offers a separate fix for usb problems on their site. But the last VIA drivers I used (the 4in1 452's) worked just fine on my Asus A7V600-X board...
Stupid question? No such thing!
Virtual Dr. to the rescue!
Just ask. Bookmark your post for easy reference.

Hi Ridgerunr--Long time since I last asked a question of U..
My drivers are the '4in1 443' drivers..I use them as they have always worked for me..But seeing as it's first time I've updated the Whole of SP2, I'll give those 4in1 452s a go. I use Driver Genious Pro to backup my drivers, but Microsoft puts its own in Automaticly at startup these days, which can be a bit confuseing if one does not know which exact drivers one needs..
These are what I had before Formating, and they be the Same Now...
In My Comp Proerties--In Disk Drivers--I have, 4x Generic Storage Device USB Device besides my HDD...
Universal Serial Bus Controllers has these----
USB Mass Storage Device.
5x USB Root Hubs
2x VIA REV 5 or Later USB Universal HOST Companian Controllers
2x VIA Rev 5 or Later USB Universal Host Controllers.
VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller.
BUT--in my New PC that's in my Sig below, All my Drivers are Different!
I Definatly Do Not have the VIA Rev 5 in there..
Hi dunedin-----Been through All that so many times I'm Sick of seeing the Device Manager...Only thing I aint done is to Pull out the PCI USB2.0 device, switch on, switch off n put it back in...But I don't think that will solve it..!!
If I change the Via Rev 5 with 'Standard Universal PCI to USB Host Controller' NO usb devices will work. There is NO Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller in the Hardware Update Wizard....But thats whats in use in this New PC n USB2 Works. But is Built in on Mobo whilst old PC is in PCI slot....
ALSO---If I change to VIA USB 2.0 Enhanced Controller, that wont work either....
First Time I can't Fix this, ,n, that's what's doing my head in.!!!
I'll keep trying n wait n see if any of you have a solution...
Now I have Just Noticed that there be Extra Drivers in the Hardware Update Wizard by unticking the "show compatible hardware....There be Via Rev 0 & Rev1 & Rev2 & Rev3 & Rev4 & Rev5 USB Universal Host Controller.. Any Idea as to Why!!
PS---Does Microsoft do All this On Purpose just to keep these Boards/Forums going..
Because I'll Repeat what I said a Long time ago....Doing these Updates is a Waste of Space n Time n NOT really nessesary..You get more Problems doing it..Plus its gone from a mear 200Mbt update to more than 1GBt..That's Obseen and Insane!!!
THANK GOD I have not Updated this PC with all of SP2.
NEVER FIX WHAT AINT BROKE!!
THANKS ALL.

scarecrowdr--What is the OS on the KG7 PC?
I assumed you have gone into its Device Manager and do not see the word "Enhanced" in any of the lines for USB Controllers.

I did Reply to this yesterday, but it's not here..LOL Stuff it!!
XP Pro, same un as PC in my Sig..
This un is only un there.....VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller.
Each time I unplug n then replug my Pen Drive or 12-1 card reader it pops up n says---No usb 2 installed..I click it off n then Reclick "Safely Remove Hardware" n it pops up n it looks like it works/recognises USB2....So something is Corrupt, But WHAT!

scarecrowdr--I cannot answer your question, but
This un is only un there.....VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller
suggests you do have USB capability on the KG7 PC.
You say that things worked OK before you reinstalled XP. Perhaps the problem is with the Trust PCI USB 2.0 4 port. I understand this is an add-on hub. Is that a powered hub?

[QUOTE]I understand this is an add-on hub. Is that a powered hub?
Yes-Hub works through PCI port...
It's rather strange and frustrateing because when I plug my Pen Drive or Card Reader in, it pops up n says its Not USB2, then the next second I click the Remove Hardware n it says I Got USB2..I can't find any conflickts (or cornflakes)
Would it be OK if I DELETE All the drivers from "Universal Serial Bus Controllers", reinstall the Trust PCI USB2 Drivers, then Restart PC n let Windows Reload the Drivers.
Is it OK & worth a try ?
THANKS for helping...

scarecrowdr--I think the answer is yes, but I would rather have someone else confirm that. Of course if you have System Restore, you could try it and use System Restore if it does not help or work.
Does that Trust USB hub come with a CD with drivers?? Perhaps you should uninstall and reinstall only it as a first step.

All I can think of is that one driver or part of, is wrong..
USB 2 does work, but only after the window pops up to tell me it is NOT working..Sounds stupid but that's what happens...
THANKS for Helping, appreciated as always.....I will plod along until, hopefully, I'll find a cure..TAKE CARE.
