Help - need sound card with Vista RC1

I made the mistake of upgrading and now my hercules sound card doesn't work. Does anyone know of any compatible sound cards with vista RC1? Creative labs has vista drivers but they're not for build 5600.

    Thanks.

At the moment no. It's a royal pain, I can't get my X-Fi sound card working either Do you have onboard sound? If so try enabling that, the built-in Vista drivers are supposedly OK with onboard sound. Otherwise it's just a matter of being patient and waiting until the Vista drivers are released.

Those who live dangerously will use drivers from other OSes and see what happens. I know drivers between 2000/xp/2003 are almost identical. Not sure about your Vista, though.

Thanks for the replys. I wised up and decided to dual boot with xp and vista. There's a lot of software I use in XP that won't run under Vista RC1 like satellite tv stuff.

I will try xp drivers with various sound cards as suggested.

One word of caution to those who are planning to experiment with vista: Don't upgrade. Do a clean install on a new partition or drive. I had problems getting my Radeon 9250 to work in Vista with the upgrade, but it works just fine with a clean install and microsoft driver.

Yep, I don't disagree with that. Upgrades have never worked well, and I really wish MS would stop allowing them.

ATI drivers are really tough to unistall anyway. There's an app that will help uninstal them if you have problems.

Just figured I'd give an update: I attempted to use the hercules XP driver for my game theater and it blue screened. So I went to Walmart and got a sound blaster audigy se and sound under vista works fine now.

Which just adds insult to injury, that Creative still haven't produced working drivers for their flagship X-Fi series

SuperSparks, have you tried running the XP driver under Vista? I actually had a problem with the Vista driver and my audigy se. I'd get intermittent crackling and sputtering during playback. It drove me nuts. After hours of troubleshooting, I unistalled the Vista driver and installed the XP driver. The crackling and sputtering went away after setting it to 24 bit and the XP driver has been running stable under Vista thus far.

Also, just went to creative's website and it looks like they do have Vista drivers for the XFIs, unless I'm mistaken.

I don't think the Vista drivers work Davie, they have been up since 12th July, but the drivers are Beta, and most people can't get them to work unfortunately.

The beta Vista drivers only worked on some of the earlier builds. They won't work on 54782 and later unfortunately.

I may have a go at installing the Win x64 drivers, though I'm not at all hopeful. But I have a True Image backup, so I guess there is noything to lose by trying.
