computer continuously beeps when turned on

Hi,

recently I opened my computer (an emachines t3306) just to see what was inside. I also removed the cpu fan and the processor just to examine it (trust me, I was really bored). I put everything back together (cpu was properly aligned, etc) and then I turned the computer on. It just continuously beeps (long beep pause long beep pause...). I tried everything including removing the cpu again and replacing, reseating the ram, clearing the cmos, but same problem. I also put a stick of ram from my other computer in and it was the same problem. Please advise. Thanks.

reddyjs--The meaning of beeps depends on the brand and version of BIOS you have.

Are you by any chance using a battery-powered backup power supply? They will beep when the battery needs to be recharged or replaced. If all your equipment is in the same place, it can be hard to tell where the beeps come from.

You mention removing the CPU & fan twice--did you clean the heatsink and CPU and apply a thin film of thermal grease each time?

Did you plug the heatsink/fan back into the motherboard? Is the fan spinning?

Yes, the fan on the heatsink was spinning but I forgot the thermal grease part. I didn't have any on me but I called emachines and i'm still under warranty. They're gonna replace the motherboard so I guess you could say problem solved. Thx for the replies.
