[XP] nForce2 and SATA burner
I cannot seem to get my new Plextor PX-755SA (SATA DVD burner) to properly install under Windows XP Pro SP2. My computer is:
ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe (BIOS 1011)
Althon XP 2600+ (Barton)
1.5GB Kingston HyperX PC2700
Two IDE HD
Plextor PX-755SA
ATi Radeon 9800 Pro (128MB)
Thermaltake 430W PSU
In device manager my "DVD/CD-ROM drives" reconizes the Plextor drive as VF3451R XZN295U SCSI CdRom Device but under My Computer it does not show up. Does anybody have any recomendations?
Thanks!

Have a look in Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk Management, and tell us what it reports the status of the drive as in there please.
Nick.

The issue has been fixed! The information I gave you guys was wrong. The controller (SATA/SCSI/RAID) information was the "fake" drive daemon tools created. The main issue was I disabled the SATA_EN jumper on the mobo when building the computer so that is why it was not finding the drive.
In the process...=P I almost had to reformat my boot drive. I knew better to do this but...it happens. When the computer was on, I scudded the computer a little and one of the heads in the HDD messed up. This caused windows (which was in the process of writing to \windows\system32\config\system file) to crash. The computer at this point was unable to boot. I brought that HDD to a friend’s house and was able to backup the data from it.
Next, I reinstalled the boot drive and booted from the CDROM drive with Windows XP sp2 disk in the drive. I planed doing some sort of "fix" or "recovery" to my flawed installation and it was surprising easy. I followed the installation path and did not reformat the partition (in this situation this option appears). A conformation message came up telling me my accounts, etc and My Documents was going to be deleted. After I hit next, it reinstalled what windows needed and within literally a minute or two I was back to normal. Oddly (and I was really glad) My Documents, account, etc did NOT get deleted. I could not believe it was going to be this easy.
I just wanted to share my mishap to everyone. Thanks for your input though!
