liam, the only time I've known it is when your buying TV's, and this is because of Licensing. Haven't been asked when buying other goods, if I am in the future I'll refuse to give it to them.
Qualifications:
I have read:
Windows 3.11 for Dummies
Windows 95 for Dummies (Second Chapter)
Fed up with UK 0870 Phone Numbers
Backup Boogaloo, you know it makes sense to do.

Ditto, i'll also have to ask why, if it is for a small item such as a scart lead.

Point is if you use a fake name keep using the same one so it'll save time the next time you use it. I've probably got a worldwide profile for that non-existent person by now LOL.
Gives me an idea, Fink.....
I have been thinking about the idea of trying to get everyone to use the same fake information. I came up with this one...and if we spread it around...we might end up with one those Internet phenomenon things that end up in Wiki.....
Had to get the Virtual Doctor plug in there.....
Virgil Doctor
14 Privacy Street
Stopit, OK 11111
Phone: 555-1212
Pretty easy to remember.....the name is essentially Virtual Doctor, Address is read as "One for Privacy" street...located in Stop it, OK? The zip is fake...
The phone number is directory assistance...or...Information.

Ridiculous stuff we are asked to give out. I have my first time for it to occur---yet. And I just made a purchase in Staples Saturday evening. But wait a minute, I used my charge card. Could that be the reason why no questions? I don't like being discriminated against either. Just "ask me" and chances are that I'll tell you---something at least.
CB, if you gotta use a fictitious name, Virginia is as good as any They won't know anyway.
BTW, I wish we could have Red Skelton give us an answer to use for them!!!
