[Pro] Windows scanner and camera wiz

Yeah I know I'm an admin here but I thought "why not make use of the massive knowledge base which is our membership?".

When using any form of voice communication, be it VOIP or MSN chat, skype, you name it, the Windows scanner and camera wiz does not come up when my digi is plugged in and turned on.

Sometimes the new hardware icon will appear in the systray, but even if I enter my computer, and try to access the F drive that way, it hangs for minutes. You can get at the photos sometimes, but it'll take quite some time since every operation hangs for several minutes.

The moment I end the voice communication, the wiz comes right up, and the transfer is quick as can be. I'm stumped, myself. Anyone else ever encounter something like this?

I haven't heard of anything like this. Have you tried running the System File Checker?

    Start/Run/sfc scannow
The only barrier to knowledge is the perception that you already have it.

Yep, no reports from it. No issues mentioned. I mean it's not the end of the world, the wiz does work, just not when voicing. Very peculiar. Once using skype not even the new hardware icon would appear in the systray, nothing happened at all. No new drive appeared in My Computer.

Maybe I better start the search for the original OS discs. They're around here somewhere. But in my apt. Hoffa could be here and I might not know.

Monitor the cpu usage while doing the various items you list.

Seems to me it is real high and you are overloading it.

Try loading the camera before opening skype.

I know it's hanging but it's a [email protected] with a gig of ram. There's no way it should be choking on this. Only about 5 apps running, none that intense in resource use. If I connect the cam before opening a voice chat, then it will function. It's only when I initiate it during voicing that it doesn't. As I said the new hardware icon usually appears, but getting AT the folders and then pics inside would try even Mother Theresa's patience.

Still interested in that cpu usage as I believe it is wound up right tight.
Vaguely, remember something about skype being very cpu intense from back when it come out. But that was a few years ago.

Well I just tested. It doesn't really get that high. 46% for a half a second but most of the time it's below 15%. The wiz didn't come up, however the new hardware icon did. When I went into My Computer I saw the new drive, clicked it, and got an empty folder. However I know there are images on the cam, I checked before testing. Now if I end the voice chat (msn msgr this time) the wiz will come right up and the images will DL in 2 seconds.

    Most odd!
I know that when I hook up my camera it takes about more or less 30 seconds to 1 minute for things to open up. And like you, sometimes the whiz does not open up.

As for the blank folder, I have seen that twice in 2 years. Went to my computer and reopened the camera and the pictures where there.

Sure hope someone can give you a answer to your question. I Be stumped!

Well that's the problem, when i'm NOT voicing, it's damn near instantaneous. I mean within a second that wiz comes up, and it does it every time. Just as it DOESN'T come up every time I'm voicing. Hey, at least it's consistent.
