[RESOLVED] Getting Rid of Yahoo Toolbar?

I have no need for Yahoo toolbar. I went to add/remove programs and tried to remove it. That froze up my system. I couldn't even turn off my computer. I had to unplug it to get it to go off.

How do I remove Yahoo Toolbar without this hassle?

I ddin't download Yahoo Toolbar. It was added with something else.

It may of been added by Flash 8, have you tried add/remove while in Safe Mode?

I am not completely familiar with how to go into safe mode. Can you tell me how to get into safe mode? And are you sure that it will work to add/remove in safe mode?

I checked on what the links said. Unfortunately, I couldn't do what the links said because when I opened IE the Yahoo Toolbar wasn't enabled and I didn't know what to do to get it to enable. However, it is listed in add/remove programs. But, like I said, if I try to remove it from there then my computer freezes.

Why is it listed in add/remove and not enabled in IE? And what can I do to get rid of it since I can't follow the directions for getting rid of it in IE.

Yes, if you don't uncheck it during the flash 8 installation, it will install. Further, even if you DO uncheck it, yahoo still puts SOMETHING on your system. I haven't identified it yet, but I saw it briefly during shutdown.

I have followed all the advice that you people have provided, but no go! The Yahoo Toolbar IS not enabled. And even though I click on it nothing happens. It will not enable.

To recap: When I tried to remove it using add/remove in control panel it froze my system. And I can't uninstall it using the advice from Yahoo.

Is there any other process I can try?

If you have custom filters in your email program, you might find the reply in Junk Mail folder. I use Hotmail; dumb filters are used and any VDr notification using the words "free" or "gift" always wind up there. FWIW.

Check your Start Menu and make sure Yahoo Toolbar isn't in there (right-click Start, then Open; if you see it listed, delete it. Then right-click Start again, but select Open all users and look there too, deleting it if present. Also C-A-D to open Task Manager, end the process if you see it in there. Then go to Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs and try again to delete it there. If it doesn't delete, go to Program Files and delete the folder.

I looked everywhere you said and it wasn't there. I then went to add/remove and this time it asked me if I was sure that I wanted to uninstall it. I clicked yes and was told that it couldn't do it because the uninstall log was not found.

Does this mean I am stuck with it?

Not yet.

That message indicates that the Yahoo Toolbar was deleted without having been uninstalled first. When a program is installed, the system logs it and makes the necessary changes to your OS to make the program run OK. Without that log, the OS can't uninstall the program and restore the system to the way it was prior to installation.

The best way to get rid of it now is to go online, Google it or whatever, find it and install it again. If prompted to overwrite existing files of the same name, click yes to all. Reboot, then go to Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs and uninstall it. That should solve the issue.

It didn't work exactly as you said -- it didn't ask me to overwrite -- but I did download and install it then went to add/remove and now it is uninstalled.
